SSE Outdoors Covid-19 Pledge: September 2020

At SSE Outdoors we appreciate that our customers may, in these exceptional times, feel nervous about booking school or group trips.

To address this from the outset and to allay any concerns, the following changes were made to our policy:

  • Should you be subject to a local or national lockdown at the point of your trip, we will give you a choice of alternative dates. If we cannot offer alternative dates, we will give a FULL refund.
  • If only some of your cohort can attend your trip, we will not ask you to forfeit the deposit for those children who, for Covid related reasons, cannot attend. *
  • If you wish to change your residential trip into day visits, we will work with you to make this happen.
  • We can offer the use of minibuses and in some circumstances, drivers, to ease travel restrictions and costs. **

All teachers, parents and young people can book with confidence, secure in the knowledge we will work with you at every stage of your booking.

SSE Outdoors is committed to providing a safe environment for young people to explore the massive benefits of outdoor learning, which, we think you’ll agree, is something needed now more than ever.

We are here to stay and continue fervently with that commitment.

*Subject to 50% attendance or more. **Subject to additional charges

Happy Days Charity aim to help as many people as possible funding trips, experiences, breaks and group activity holidays for those who need them most. You can apply for a family break, day trip or group activity holiday if you have a child or children with special educational needs, who have been victims of abuse or who have a life-limiting condition and are aged 3-17. Click on the link below to find out more.

The overall objective of the programme is to break the link between family background and educational achievement, ensuring that young people from all backgrounds have the opportunity to fulfil their aspirations and make the most of their talents. Applicants should be educational establishments, EEF would not expect to fund a project which reaches less than 100 students, and ideally would want it to cover more than one school. Click on the link below to find out more.

Daytripper’s Foundation provide grants for recreational and educational day trips for groups of children and young people aged 5-25 who have disabilities and life-limiting conditions in the UK. Eid Summer Camp 2019

The weekend eid camp for muslim children aged between 9 and 18 years old, brought together 66 children and team of 12 adult volunteers from across the country, to celebrate the end of Ramadhan in a weekend filled with outdoor activities, creative play and spiritual practice.

This is the first of its kind in Somerset with a huge success with all camp goals being achieved including connecting with nature and making friends.

Prior to the camp many of the young had reported emotional and social challenges, many positive outcomes, on both young people and the adults, came as a result of the camp.

Some volunteers who suffer from mental ill health (bipolar/anxiety) found that due to the supportive nature of the camp they were able to take part in activities that they have never tried before or did not think they would have the confidence to do

100% of adults and children reported an increase in self-esteem, confidence and happiness! How brilliant is that?

One child aged 9 from London asked they could stay behind as they did not want to return to the city and loved the experience so much.

87% (66) reported never seeing the sea before and 87% (66) had never seen a horse in its natural environment before so it really was a very special camp.

What a fantastic experience had by all and everyone at SSE Kilve Court is very much looking forward to welcoming the Eid camp again in 2020!
