Naturally Healthy Month

May 2017 will once again be known as Naturally Healthy Month!

Kilve Court is joining Active Devon and Public Health at Somerset County Council in promoting the Naturally Healthy Campaign on behalf of the Devon and Somerset Local Nature Partnership.

Throughout the month of May, the participating organisations will be offering a wide range of activities and chances to celebrate their local ‘wild’ outdoor spaces, landscapes and environments and improve their sense of health and wellbeing.  There will be something for people of all ages and abilities; from nature art and outdoor volunteering, to wildlife and singing walks – with a particular emphasis on supporting individuals who are less physically active, suffer with mental health issues or who feel isolated.

Join us at our Family Day on Sunday, 21st May to try your hand at some of our outdoor activities and enrichment course taster sessions!

Exciting Opportunities at Kilve Court

We have exciting hospitality opportunities available in our kitchens – we are looking for 2 cooks and one kitchen & domestic assistant to join our team.  If you are interested in working in our kitchens and preparing food for our hungry customers, check out the job descriptions on the Somerset County Council job pages here or contact Martin Conway for an informal discussion on 01278 741270.  Closing date for the cooks vacancies is 17th February 2017 and closing date for the kitchen assistant is 24th February 2017.

The New Season

The new season is about to get started here at Kilve Court.  To kick it all off, we had an enjoyable staff away day at Dillington House, Ilminster.  It was great to spend time with colleagues away from the every day tasks involved in running our busy outdoor centres.  It was also fantastic to see the grounds and house at Dillington, as well as sample the delicious food, which is legendary!

We’re now looking forward to welcoming over 1600 people to our centres before the end of March.  There’s nothing like a bit of pressure to get the mammoth task of upgrading the whole of the new house accommodation finished on time.  The Winter refurb has been a huge job but Ian and his crew have worked incredibly hard to keep it on schedule and make the bedrooms a great place for children and staff to stay. Pleasantly surprised with just how many hidden DIY skills the staff team have.

We’re also excited to welcome some new staff this season – we have a good bunch of trainees joining the team in February , as well as most of the old staff seasonal instructors returning for another season.  Although I’m not sure calling staff in their 20s old is right!!

Our new brochure of courses is now available and, as you read through it, we hope the enrichment, activity and Summer Holiday courses tempt you and your children to visit Kilve Court to make fantastic memories in 2017.

All-in-all, it’s going to be a great year here at the Kilve Court and Charterhouse centres and we look forward to seeing you here soon!

It’s Here! The Spring & Summer brochure has arrived!

We are very excited to announce our Spring & Summer Holiday courses are now available to book!  Our new brochure has gone to print and covers courses from 31st March to 1st September 2017.

Alongside our fantastic enrichment courses for more able students, we also have holiday activity courses, woodland survival, as well as specialist days for rope and wheel activities.

For a little preview, have a look here!

If you would like to be added to our mailing list for a hard copy of the brochure, send us a quick email –

Half Term at Kilve Court!

Don’t want the kids getting bored over Half Term?

We’ve got plenty in store here at Kilve Court!

We have courses available for 6-16 year olds where they can:

  • Make new friends
  • Learn new things
  • Have new experiences

and most importantly, have fun!

Check out what we’ve got on over Half term here – Half Term at Kilve Court.

Our awesome animation

This clever creation was made by our talented tutor Siobhan.

The first half uses a technique called ‘pixilation’, which uses photographs to make it look as though things are moving in a slightly unnatural way (socks, clothes, books and teddies that pack themselves into the backpack).

The second half uses a piece of software that layers the different parts of the frame, which means you don’t need to redraw everything each time. In total, there are just under 200 frames!

Would your child like to make their own animation? Why don’t they come along to Siobhan’s Animation Day Course in December?

They can also have a go at home – check out ABCYA Animate!
