Our Somerset Centres

Offering high quality Outdoor Education and Holiday Courses  for over 50 years.

You can come and take part in activities for the day, a weekend or a week – or we can offer a specialist tutor to come to your school, or give a talk to your special interest group.

We have something for EVERYONE.  We also offer bursaries to give a helping hand if money is tight.

Kilve Court

Kilve Court is set in glorious countryside between the Quantock Hills and Kilve Beach.

We’ve got first-rate activity facilities including an archery garden, a high ropes course and a grass sledging hill, as well as wonderful woods and streams to explore. Click here to see more.

We can link residentials and courses to the curriculum making use of the local area, wildlife and beauty.

We also offer field trips to expand the students’ horizons. There’s sailing at Durleigh, visits to historic houses and walks through the wonderful AONB countryside.

The Outdoor Centre

If you love the outdoor life, but find tents a bit chilly, we’ve got a brilliant Outdoor Centre in the grounds of Kilve Court.

You can run wild in two acres of streams and woodland. You can make camps, explore the fantasy trail, have a go on Kilve’s climbing wall, high ropes and mountain bikes and lots, lots more! Best of all, you can end the day around a real campfire.

Whether you’re learning survival and bushcraft, or using the Centre as a base for your own conference, trail running or youth groups, you’ll have an amazing time and get all the support you need.

We have sixteen wooden cabins with a modern toilet and shower block, built around a light, airy hall that can be used for meals, sports and talks.

Great Wood

The Great Wood Centre

In the heart of the forrest

The Great Wood Camp is a fantastic venue, with modern log cabins that are warm and practical. Hidden in its own forest, it’s the perfect place to study ecology and wildlife.

Visitors can see buzzards, roe deer, glow bugs and lots more. You can also try low ropes, den-building and stream exploration, or maybe have a go at fossil hunting on Kilve’s amazing Jurassic coastline. Click here to see all the exciting activities we can offer.

You can also go on trips to all sorts of places, including Tropiquaria, Kilve Court, Kilve Beach and the YMCA. We can also arrange sailing and kayaking adventures. When you’ve finished exploring the Quantocks, you can swim in the outdoor pool and end the day around a crackling campfire. We also have our own Great Wood chaplain. Talk to us so we can create a tailor-made adventure for you to treasure forever.

The Charterhouse Centre

Set high on the Mendip Hills, about 30 minutes from Bristol, and not far from spectacular Cheddar Gorge, the Charterhouse Centre is an old school with an eco-friendly extension.

Our highly qualified staff specialise in walking, caving, rock climbing and orienteering, but we also offer sailing and kayaking.  Click here to see what activities we offer.  With the Blackmoor Nature Reserve nearby, Charterhouse is a great place for field trips at every academic level, whether you’re exploring wildlife, or you’d like to learn about the Romans and industrial archaeology – it’s all here. We’re also very proud of our fully working observatory.
