You’ve raced your ducks, and you’ve got a feel for how the stream flows through the shallows and the pools, where the water runs quickly, and where it’s slower. Where would you build a dam to make the best pools, and why?
Dam building is a spoonful of maths, a blob of physics and a hint of engineering. Make it as basic or as difficult as you like …Or maybe it’s another excuse to get muddy?
Choosing an area in the stream to build their dam and then measuring the difference from the deepest section to the shallowest section. The winning team has the highest number once calculations have been made. Many different areas in this activity can be taken back to the classroom if needed or it can be simply, just for fun.
Suitable for all ages
Location: stream, on-site.
